About Jennifer

"I am a licensed / registered occupational therapist (OTR/L) with 20+ years of experience in a variety of educational and medical settings, and a wide age range.  I received my Bachelor’s degree in OT in 1981, from SJSU.  I am very excited to be “back” at Cal Poly, as I started my college experience here, and completed all my pre-OT coursework here.  I have a much stronger attachment to Cal Poly, than I do to SJSU.  This is because of the “learn by doing” standard of education practiced here.  The memories of my Cal Poly experiences are happy ones…I met my future husband my first quarter AND saw my first streaker (complete with red socks) my third quarter.  No wonder my years here are memorable!

Because of my OT background, I am comfortable working with persons experiencing a variety of injuries / disabilities / educational learning challenges, including: brain/head injury, health impairment, attention deficit disorder, learning disability, stroke (CVA), cerebral palsy, and paralysis.  I have special expertise and personal experience in issues related to visual impairment / blindness.

In addition to the satisfaction I get from my work directly with students, and faculty on their behalf, I take great pleasure in my activities in promoting Universal Design in the campus environment and instructional processes, to assist the campus community to ensure access to programs and facilities.

I am married to a great, talented man, and we have a 20 year old daughter, (also very talented and a fantastic person), who is finishing her junior year here, after earning her AA degree at Cuesta College.  My favorite places to be are: Lake Tahoe, San Francisco, and the Isle of Islay, (they pronounce it “eye la”), in Scotland.  I am a chocolate lover (dark); enjoy horseback riding, swimming, walking for exercise and transportation, watching historical and romantic / comedy movies, and listening to audiobooks."
